On an impromptu “drop-everything, let’s get on an airplane in three hours” surprise birthday trip for Christina, the couple hiked canyons, sand washes and hidden waterfalls, and enjoyed a meal at a phenomenal restaurant, where Matthew popped the question. “The best part of the story is that she unknowingly carried her engagement ring in a small pocket on the shoulder strap of her backpack each day during our hikes,” recalls Matthew. “She was nosing around for a ribboned box and didn’t realize the prize was under her very nose the whole time!” The wedding was a family event, held at the lodge Christina’s family has operated for more than 30 years, and where her parents were married. Their ceremony was officiated by Matthew’s father, who wrote the script with the couple. The family helped put all the details together – from the wedding arch to the bouquet, corsages, decorations, table arrangements and cake. The couple had a bubble sendoff, and enjoyed their guests blowing bubbles throughout the reception’s toasts and appetizers, starting their marriage with love and laughter.
