Bride’s name: Emma Gaylor

Groom’s name: Joby Higgins

Occupations: Emma is a direct care provider for Hearts and Hands of Care, and Joby is a heavy equipment operator and laborer for the local union.

How they met: At a mutual friend’s house for a summer get-together.

The proposal: Joby invited Emma to Alyeska Resort to help celebrate his sister’s anniversary – or so he said. To Emma’s surprise, her closest friends and family entered the room after they ordered drinks. “I was very confused as to why they were all there. As my mother walked up to me, she whispered in my ear, ‘the real surprise is behind you.’ When I turned, Joby was down on one knee.”

Number of guests: 100+

Wedding colors: Maroon and rose

Most memorable moment…
For her: Seeing Joby’s huge smile when she walked down the aisle. “It was the cutest, most genuine moment; I won’t ever forget it.”
For him: “How absolutely jaw-dropping my wife was.”

Funniest moment: When Joby unexpectedly smashed cake in his bride’s face. “We had talked about it before the wedding, and he said he wouldn’t do that to me because of how expensive my makeup would be. Well, that statement did not last!”

Unique aspects of the day: The weather cooperated perfectly - it was warm and there were sunny skies for the couple’s outdoor wedding. The couple was especially thankful for all the hard work by Emma’s mother. She made and/or designed the décor for the entire site – from the centerpieces to the guest favors.

Three words that best describe their day: “Treasured, perfect, loving.”

If they had the chance to do it again, what they would do differently: “We would have paid our photographer to stay longer and take some pictures of the reception. We had some pretty awesome dancers on the dance floor.”

What Emma loves most about her husband: “His humor. Anyone who knows Joby will probably tell him he’s the funniest person they have ever met.”

What Joby loves most about his wife: “The way she loves unconditionally, and her ability to see my full potential, even when I cannot.”

Best advice for a couple planning a wedding: “Give yourself a lot of time, even if you are trying to have a smaller more private wedding like we did. We put our wedding together in seven months, and to minimize the stress I could have used a few more months so I didn’t feel so rushed to get a lot done in a little time.”
