Over the years, Kayla and Jake had run into each other several times. Despite Jake’s attempts, Kayla was never interested in a date. “Then, in 2012 (five years after we met), we began talking one day and never stopped!” Kayla exclaims. Years later, while the two were fishing together at one of their favorite spots, Jake asked Kayla to hold the fly box "and when I grabbed it, there was a ring sitting in it." Then Jake was on one knee, surrounded by the beautiful river under sunny skies; "it was so sweet and so us!" Their wedding, like Jake’s proposal, was based around their love of the Alaska outdoors. “There’s nothing like spraying yourself down with mosquito spray before walking down the aisle," recalls Kayla fondly. "The unpredictable weather, the green trees, the mud puddles, the river flowing right next to us" – it was all perfectly Alaskan. With the music cranked up, friends and family danced the night away on the plywood dance floor in the middle of the woods. “The whole atmosphere was just fun and you could tell everyone enjoyed themselves! It was like a big party."
