Kendra K. Deutsch and Steve E. Shaner

June 18, 2016

Kendra and Steve grew up in the same small town, but they didn’t meet until June 18, 2011 at a solstice concert. “When we got engaged, we sat down in front of a calendar to pick our date, and to our amazement, June 18 fell on a Saturday,” says Kendra. “We were married five years, to the day, after he introduced himself.” On their wedding day, the couple decided to not see each other before the wedding, but Kendra still wanted a first look. “I like the excitement of a first look, so I did it with my bridesmaids!” she says, “They waited on the front porch with their eyes closed until I came down the stairs. That moment was so fun!” Nothing, however, could top the feeling of walking out of the church as husband and wife, says Kendra. Many friends pitched in to help at the wedding: The photographer, baker and photo booth company are all friends of the family. Even the bartender is a close friend and he went all out with a list of handcrafted cocktails from lavender gin fizzes to blueberry vodka lemonades. “Working with wedding vendors that knew us and truly had our best interest in mind made the experience so much sweeter.”
