Saadia & Johnclaude

August 5, 2017

Bride’s name: Saadia DeJesus

Groom’s name: Johnclaude ‘JC’ Snead

Occupations: Saadia is a project manager at Arctic Slope Regional Corporation, and JC is a general manager at Air Land Transport.

How they met: Months before JC and Saadia randomly bumped into each other at a popular club in downtown Anchorage and became inseparable, “JC caught Saadia’s eye during an early morning jog.”

The proposal: It was the first snowfall for Anchorage in October 2016 when JC picked up Saadia from work, saying that he desperately needed her assistance. Upon arriving, he asked Saadia if she trusted him. Saadia said “of course,” and JC blindfolded her and guided her to the rooftop of a local hotel. After removing her mask, Saadia stood overlooking downtown Anchorage and then turned to find JC on one knee in the snow, asking for her hand in marriage. Saadia says: “Every first snowfall will always hold sentimental value.”

Number of guests: 60

Wedding colors: Marsala, navy blue, gold

Most memorable moment…

For her: “While there was a lot going on that day, there was an overwhelming sense of peace and joy that surpassed everything as the man of my dreams, and our closest family and friends, surrounded me in love.”

For him: “Seeing my beautiful wife in her dress for the first time. It was also the nicest day of the year and summer.“

Unique aspects of the day: The wedding itself was a surprise to most of the family and guests. The bride turned 30 a couple weeks prior, so the event was deemed an “Engagement Party/ 30th Birthday Celebration.” The groomsmen, flower girl and some of the bridesmaids had no idea it was a wedding, “so having outfits for them to wear was a major risk, but it worked out.” Also, the bride, an animal lover, invited the neighborhood llamas, and their presence was a big hit with the guests – young and old. Topping off this animal-friendly event, the couple’s treasured pet pooch served as ring bearer.

Funniest moment: The whole event was filled with hilarity – from the boisterous reactions as guests realized they were at a wedding to the look on their faces when they saw the llamas arrive. Another fun moment was the cake fight, which, of course, was not supposed to happen. “But as the moment presented itself, all we could feel was love and a lot of laughter.”

Three words that best describe their day: “Heartwarming, hilarious and unforgettable.”

If they had the chance to do it again, what they would do differently: “Nothing. It was magical and surpassed every expectation.”

What Saadia loves most about her husband: “JC has a heart of gold and the patience of a saint. I can’t imagine life without him.”

What JC loves most about his wife: “Saadia is my partner and my rock. I love her adventurous spirit and caring nature. She is the first and only person that has my entire heart.”

Best advice for a couple planning a wedding: “It’s your special day, so make sure it embodies who you are and showcases the love you have for each other. When the big day comes, embrace it.”
