On Christmas Eve one year at Ben’s parents’ home, Lennon was wrapping presents when Ben handed her an envelope. Inside was a riddle, leading her on a scavenger hunt around the house to find an early Christmas present. Seven clues later: the ring and a proposal. On their wedding day, Ben surprised Lennon with a limo ride from the church to the reception site. At the reception, one of the funniest moments was the garter toss. Lennon couldn’t imagine why Ben was taking so long to get the garter off. He eventually pulled out a huge pair of “granny panties” from under her dress that he had stuffed in his jacket and waved them in the air for everyone to see. Lennon recalls all the special ways her mother helped with the celebration. She made the delicious white cake with butter cream frosting and homemade raspberry filling, the birch bark vases on the tables, and the homemade gifts for guests to take home. She was the wedding planner who set up the venue, got the caterer, arranged for the florist and the DJ. “She gave us the best wedding ever.”
