Bride’s name: Stephanie Kirk

Groom’s name: Andrew Arnold

Occupations: Stephanie is a medical assistant and Andrew is an ophthalmic assistant.

How they met: The two have been family friends since they were kids in elementary school.

The proposal: “We went backpacking on Kesugi Ridge (in Denali). At the top, Andrew thought it would be a fun to take a time-lapse of us setting up camp, and I thought it was a great idea,” says Stephanie. After years of saying that Stephanie needed a hard-shell jacket, Andrew pulled one out and put it on her, telling her they could “weather all storms together.” Then, as they prepared for a photo, Stephanie felt something in her jacket pocket. That’s when Andrew opened the pocket to pull out a box with a ring, getting down on his knee and saying some sweet words. “I said YES! And we danced around camp in celebration!”

Number of guests: About 220

Wedding colors: Orange and turquoise

Most memorable moment…
For her: “Feeling so unbelievably blessed, loved and supported by my husband, family and friends.”
For him: “Walking into the reception, being greeted by all of our friends ready to celebrate with us!”

Funniest moment: A tie between their parents’ dance and the random wedding crashers throughout the dance.

Unique aspects of the day: “A few days before, the highway from Anchorage to Girdwood was shut down due to a fire, so we were all praying for rain! Luckily the weather did turn gloomy and the highway reopened,” says Stephanie. Just before the couple walked out for their first look photos, however, Stephanie says “the first rays of sunshine burst through the clouds, and God cleared the skies for the day!” The string quartet led by Danika Paskva, a family friend, and their handmade unity cross from Dr. Arnold’s mission to Thailand were also special to them.

Three words that best describe their day: “Joyful, blessed, amazing.”

If they had the chance to do it again, what they would do differently: Plan more time for dinner to thank and see each of their guests. “We only made it about three-quarters of the way through during dinner.”

What Stephanie loves most about her husband: “His desire to work hard, adventure much and serve the Lord.”

What Andrew loves most about his wife: “Her spirit of adventure.”

Best advice for a couple planning a wedding? “Take time together to invest in your marriage and not just invest in the wedding day. We went though a book and had meetings with out pastor beforehand and learned so much that helped jump-start our marriage on the right path!”
