Geneva & Aemon
July 2, 2011
Bride’s name: Geneva Head
Groom’s name: Aemon Wetmore
Occupations: Geneva is a first grade teacher, and Aemon is an environmental engineer.
How they met: Geneva and Aemon met through a mutual friend during their first year at Mt. Edgecumbe High School in Sitka.
The proposal: To set the stage, Aemon took Geneva out to dinner for her favorite meal: king crab. “When Geneva’s king crab came out, the ring was prominently displayed on one of the legs, though she didn’t see it until I was down on one knee asking her to marry me.”
Wedding colors: Gray and yellow
Number of guests: 80
Most memorable moment…
For her: “I remember the pouring rain all morning. I was extremely nervous but minutes before the ceremony the clouds broke, the rain stopped and a wave of relief washed over me as I walked down the aisle and smiled at my husband.”
For him: “I remember being so nervous that I didn’t eat anything all day. An hour before the wedding, I realized that half of my shaking was due to low blood sugar and I should get some food. At that point my mouth was too dry to swallow anything. That, and how beautiful the bride was.”
Funniest moments: “Our dog, Pita, made a spectacle of herself in the front row during our ceremony trying to army crawl to us. She also helped herself to a generous portion of our cake.”
Unique aspects of the day: “Our friend, Josiah Wynn, played the guitar and sang as the bridal party entered and exited the ceremony.” People who didn’t see him thought it was a recording. In case of rain, 60 white umbrellas were ready for the guests. Thankfully, the rain stopped and the umbrellas made for great photo props. Instead of a traditional wedding cake, the couple opted for a cupcake cake. And for the favors, “we grew crab apple trees from seeds and planted the saplings in pots painted with our wedding colors.” Also given to guests were pint glasses decorated with the artwork from the invitations along with the wedding date.
Three words that best describe their day: “Beautiful, fun and emotional.”
If they had the chance to do it again, what they would do differently: “We would have involved our friend, Christy O’, with planning earlier than the day before, though she still did an amazing job. We also needed more heaters for the tent and all of the walls. Homer can be chilly, even in July.”
What Aemon loves most about his wife: “I love how cute she is when she’s mad. I love the side of her that only I get to see.”
What Geneva loves most about her husband: “The way he understands me. He’s always been my best friend.”
Best advice for a couple planning a wedding: “Get a wedding planner!”
