Teri Kahl and Shabir Rasiwala
September 3, 2011
Shabir loves the beauty and pageantry surrounding the holiday season so the timing of the proposal couldn’t have been more perfect. After asking Teri’s father and her son, Tristan, for their blessing, Shabir proposed to Teri on Christmas Eve, surrounded by their families. “I was too overwhelmed with emotion that the only words I could muster was ‘Thank you’ instead of ‘Yes,’ ” recalls Teri. Just before the ceremony, Teri shared a quiet moment with her son. “Seeing tears in his eyes was a magical moment for me.” Another meaningful touch was the traditional henna tattoo hand-drawn on her hands by a close Rasiwala family friend. “The henna artist was so wonderful and incorporated Shabir and my son’s initials in the tattoo.” Shabir is a big fan of the Styx song “Mr. Roboto” and found a funny, wood carved Mr. & Mrs. Roboto cake topper. He also purchased black leather Converse “Jack Purcell” sneakers for all his groomsmen as a fun counterpoint to the serious and elegant tuxedos. “You could tell the groomsmen had a lot of fun wearing them especially on the dance floor. They make excellent dancing shoes!” As a beautiful way to honor Teri’s mother, who passed away the previous year, the couple’s first song choice was “Mama’s Song” by Carrie Underwood. “The song incorporates my feelings towards Shabir and my mother who was with us all in spirit.”
