Your caterer: What to ask

You’ll spend a good chunk of your wedding budget on food,
so don’t pick just any caterer!

Here are some good questions to ask before signing a contract.

Do you specialize in certain types of food?

What types of hors d’ouerves, main course and desserts do you recommend for the style and hour of my wedding?

Can we arrange to taste samples of your menu?

What is your average price range? Are costs itemized depending on the foods I choose, or is there an all-inclusive flat rate?

How does the cost-per-person of a buffet compare to that of a sit-down dinner?

Are tables, chairs, linens and place settings included in your service? (Ask to see these items to make sure they’re acceptable.)

Are gratuities included in the food prices? If not, what is the gratuity charge?

Do you have a set menu or do you accept modifications?

Will you provide wait staff? How many do you recommend for the size of my wedding? What will the waitstaff wear?

Where will the food be prepared? If my reception location does not have a well-equipped kitchen, will you be able to bring your own equipment and, if so, is there an additional fee?

Do you carry liability insurance?

Do you have a license to serve alcoholic beverages and do you provide bar service? If we want to provide our own alcohol, do you charge a corkage fee?

Can you supply me with a list of references? (Contact two.)

How much is the deposit needed? When is the final payment due?
