Amber Setlock and Ben Wilsey
July 4, 2020
Amber and Ben met online, had their first date at Moose’s Tooth, and have been together ever since. Amber loves the Iditarod, so for the 2020 race start, “Ben arranged for our parents to come up to Alaska and see the race restart on Willow Lake,” says Amber. “After the last musher ran past, Ben took a knee and to my surprise, he proposed! Everyone was excited and it was so special that our parents were able to be there with us.” Due to the pandemic, their wedding day wasn’t exactly what they had planned and immediate family members were unable to attend. “But,” says Amber, “the best part about our day was that we still were able to celebrate our commitment to each other with our closest friends, who have become our family in Alaska. The day was intimate, low-key, and minimal stress," she says. "Despite the odds, our wedding day turned out better than we could have ever imagined. It was the most beautiful day and the perfect temperature outside. We were able to have a low-key morning getting ready and enjoying our friends and our vendors.” The funniest moment of the day made for some great photos: “Our awesome photographer, Lena, had the great idea while taking couples portraits by a lake, to ask some local bystanders if we could borrow their canoe for pictures,” says Amber. “They were so kind and allowed us to take their canoe for a ride on the lake!”
