Bride’s name: Vanessa Cloyd

Groom’s name: Page Barnes

Occupations: Vanessa is an executive assistant and Page works in sales.

How they met: Vanessa met Page while he was stationed in San Diego with the Marine Corps at the same time as Page’s cousin. They kept in touch while Page was deployed in Afghanistan, “spending most of our free time FaceTiming and planning all of our adventures when he returned,” says Vanessa. Eventually, Page decided to move back to southern California, and the couple has been inseparable ever since.

The proposal: “We were hiking Arthur’s Seat (in Scotland) which has the most amazing panoramic views of the city of Edinburgh. It was cold and kind of rainy as I was taking pictures of the views, and when I turned around he was on his knee asking if I would be his wife.”

Number of guests: 32

Wedding colors: Gem tones paired with navy, wine, forest green, cream and pink

Most memorable moment…

For her: Despite the unpredictable stormy weather and no backup plan for their outdoor ceremony, Vanessa was perfectly calm. “Around noon the weather let up, the skies cleared, we could see all of the volcanoes for the first time we’d arrived in Alaska. By the time the ceremony started, it was the most beautiful sunset we had seen – a cotton candy sky – it was perfect.”

For him: “The perfect sunset and being surrounded by close family and friends.”

Funniest moment: Back in college, Page's mom got all of his Texas A&M buddies together and threw him a surprise birthday party at McDonald’s complete with party hats and happy meals; “it's something the guys still joke about today,” says Vanessa. Knowing that some of those same friends would be at the wedding, Page's mom thought it would be fun to incorporate that memory into the couple’s special day. When Vanessa's father started to speak while officiating the ceremony, he pulled out a folder to read from, made entirely of Happy Meal boxes! “Everyone had a good laugh,” says Vanessa. “I did, however, tell him to ditch it for the sake of our wedding photos; this is a
classy event!"

Unique aspects of the day: “My dad officiating our wedding was really special to us,” says Vanessa. “I’m very close to my family and there was no one else we'd rather have to bring our love together.”
Three words that best describe their day: “Thankful beyond words.”

If they had the chance to do it again, what they would do differently: “I would have started getting ready earlier,” says Vanessa, who was a little late to her wedding – whoops. She adds, “I would have placed my tent in a different spot and maybe opened up the sides to take in more of the views.”

What Vanessa loves most about her husband: “His selfless devoting love, always putting me and others first before himself. His ability to make me feel safe, loved and beautiful.”

What Page loves most about his wife: “She brings out the best parts of me.”

Best advice for a couple planning a wedding: “Go with the flow; some things that happen will be out of your control but I promise you, everything will be perfect. Designate one person to answer all questions; you will be pulled in a million directions so let others help you, if you need it… and mimosas always help.”
