Bride’s name: Erin George

Groom’s name: Sterling Rearden

Occupations: Erin is an emergency department technician/nursing student and Sterling is an engineer.

How they met: Through mutual friends.

The proposal: During a road trip around the state in July of 2017, Erin and Sterling found a beautiful spot along the Gulkana river. One year later, “Sterling took me back to that exact same spot and proposed.”

Number of guests: 80-90

Wedding colors: Mauve, burgundy and navy blue

Most memorable moment…

For her: “The amount of emotion I felt! I was so sensitive to everything going on, in a great way. I couldn’t believe I was so lucky to be experiencing such an incredible day, marrying a man I love so much, celebrating with our friends and family.”

For him: “When my dad, who officiated the wedding, asked us to pause from the chaos of a wedding day, take a look around, and remember this moment. It worked.”

Unique and special aspects of the day: Some of the special touches included birch coasters for wedding favors that were personalized by Sterling; goodies from Erin’s favorite Italian bakery in Connecticut (her mother's hometown); traditional Yup’ik qaspeqs made by Sterling’s mother for the flower girls and ring bearers; and the birch arch made by Sterling decorated with flowers from Lily of the Valley Floral Co.

Funniest moment: “Two of our close friends, who were two of Sterling’s groomsmen, made some very memorable speeches towards the end of the night after one too many drinks. Needless to say, we still bring up certain aspects of those speeches today.”

Three words that best describe their day: “Intimate, emotional, joyful.”

If they had the chance to do it again, what they would do differently: “We have discussed this quite a bit and neither of us can think of anything we would change. We loved our wedding day.”

What Erin loves most about her husband: “There are so many things I love about Sterling, but his sense of adventure is one of the things I love most about him.”

What Sterling loves most about his wife: “Her kindness, selflessness and general care for others.”

Best advice for a couple planning a wedding: “Hire a wedding coordinator for the day of the wedding! This is one of the best decisions we made for our big day.”
