Megan & Dave

June 30, 2023

Bride’s name: Megan Renee Alletson

Groom’s name: David Matthew Amiri

How they met: “We met over drinks and appetizers at a local Santa Monica restaurant and ended up being the last patrons they had to shoo out the door at closing time. That first night we shared stories of our friends and family, of growing up on opposite sides of the country (Dave in upstate New York and Megan in Alaska), and of the many commonalities we had that ranged from favorite TV shows to music to sports.” The second date was soon locked in and the rest is history.

Number of guests: 120

Wedding colors: Champagne, pale pink and sage green

Unique and special aspects of their day: “When we decided to get married in Alaska, we knew that the location alone would provide such a unique and special experience for many of our out-of-state guests.” The groom’s father, a skilled craftsman, made custom wooden flowerbox centerpieces for each table; and a close friend painted the watercolor table number signs and name cards. Also special: the groom’s nieces (ages 9 and 12) wrote and recited their own short pieces during the ceremony.

Most memorable moment…

For her: “We were completely blown away by the speeches from our loved ones. For me, that was one of the most memorable parts of our day. Each speech was so special, so thoughtful, very unique to the person delivering it and truly captivated the entire room.”

For him: “I remember being struck by watching the little exchanges between our guests. In some instances, it’d be two people from opposite sides of the country, with completely different life experiences, and the only real thing they have in common is their love for the bride and groom.”

Funniest moment: During the reception, after the couple had changed into more comfortable outfits, the DJ re-introduced the two to raucous applause and many compliments. After the unveiling, David took a bit of a fall on the dance floor and as he was falling, he reached out to grab anything to maintain his balance and he accidentally ripped a large piece of Megan’s dress. “Luckily, our amazing florist, Brittany, is a close friend and a talented seamstress, and she was able to save the day and the dress thanks to a mini sewing kit. Needless to say, Dave was very relieved, but still hasn't lived it down.”

Three words that best describe their day: “Heartfelt, joyous, unforgettable.”

If they had the chance to do it again, what they would do differently: “There’s really not much we would change!” The storm on the East Coast resulted in canceled flights for some of the guests and that was disappointing, “but there are always going to be things out of your control. We felt so much love near and far, and genuinely had an amazing day thanks to an incredible team of vendors and our wonderful loved ones.”

Best advice for a couple planning their wedding: “Our guiding principle throughout the planning process was to ensure the event was a reflection of ourselves as individuals and as a couple. Whether it was songs we wanted to be played, or ‘traditional’ wedding tropes we decided to avoid – we made it our day. While we understand weddings are special and important days for so many people close to the bride and groom, we’d advise couples not to lose sight of the fact that at the core, this is a day celebrating their unique love story and union. It’s ok to be a bit selfish and make the wedding their day!”
