Meredith & Jed
August 16, 2024
Bride’s name: Meredith Behrens
Groom’s name: Jed Carpenter
How they met: “We met at church shortly after we each moved to Alaska.”
Number of guests: 150
Wedding colors: “It was a very colorful wedding. The primary colors were teal, mustard, mauve, wine, blush, and rust. We wanted the day to feel bright and colorful! The bridesmaid dress colors were chosen to emulate fireweed.”
Unique and special aspects of the day: “The bride’s mother hand painted the wine glasses used during dinner. These glasses were a party favor for guests to take home. A chair in the front row was reserved in honor of the groom’s mother who passed away. A sign was placed on the chair, as well as a bouquet of flowers and her Bible. Both the bride’s mother and groom’s father performed readings during the wedding ceremony. Immediately following the ceremony, the bride and groom participated in a private communion and foot washing ceremony. The groom built the altar, and the bride and her mother created the seating chart mural. The bride and groom hand wrote letters to each guest as part of the seating chart. Music during the ceremony included songs from Lord of the Rings and Jurassic Park. The groom was previously a professional ballroom dancer and he choreographed the first dance. A moose made an appearance, which was a special treat for our out-of-state guests. We used a Bible as a guest book and had our guests highlight their favorite verses.”
Most memorable moment…
For her: “Sitting down for dinner and looking out at all of our favorite people gathered in one place.”
For him: “The first look and the excitement leading up to it.”
Funniest moment: “The bride and her sister performed Defying Gravity from Wicked, which was a surprise for all the guests, including the bride’s sister.”
Three words that best describe their day: “Joyful, sentimental, and spiritual.”
If they had the chance to do it again, what they would do differently: “We wouldn’t do anything differently, we only wish there had been more hours in the day.”
Best piece of advice for a couple planning their wedding: “To enjoy the planning process rather than just working through a to-do list.”
