Make Your Wedding
Uniquely Yours

What makes a wedding special? It's all in those special details that make your personality shine through. From the vows to the grand finale, here are 40+ ways to personalize your wedding day to make it feel authentic, memorable, and unmistakably you.

CEREMONIAL MOMENTS

  • Roll up to your "I do" site in one-of-a-kind style. Some of the many unique arrivals (and departures) we’ve seen include: horseback, golf cart, sea kayak, dog sled, jet skis, snowmachines, helicopter, hayride and, yes, even a dumptruck (the groom owned a demolition company).

  • Writing your own vows can be a sweet way to personalize your ceremony. Speak from your heart, and your guests will feel your love in the most intimate way.

  • Ask either your officiant or master of ceremonies to share your love story with guests.

  • Invite a family member or friend to read a poem or passage that holds special meaning to you as a couple.

  • Give your beloved pooch an important role in your wedding day. Whether your dog walks down the aisle as a ring bearer or simply sits by your side, pets add an emotional and personal touch to the ceremony.

  • Incorporate a unity ceremony to symbolize the joining of your two lives together. Customize this beautiful tradition to reflect your unique love story - whether it’s blending sand, lighting a unity candle, planting a tree together, assembling a unity cross, or even mixing two different wines to “toast” your new life.

  • Invite your grandmothers to be flower girls.

ELEVATE YOUR EATS

  • For your cocktail-party hors d'oeuvres, get inspiration from your cultural heritage. Come from an Asian background? Dish up sushi or some veggie tempura. Mexican heritage? Serve up mini tacos paired with mini margarita shooters.

  • Treat your out-of-town guests to a taste of Alaska with local flavors like grilled Alaska salmon or halibut, king crab dip, locally brewed beer and blueberry wine.

  • Elevate comfort food with your own personal twist. Think mini gourmet grilled cheese sandwiches served alongside tomato soup shooters, or an upscale mac ‘n cheese bar with a variety of toppings (like lobster, truffle oil, jalapeños, and crispy bacon). Kids and grown-ups alike will love it.

  • Create a special menu that includes a treasured family recipe. Ask the caterer to recreate the beloved family dish for your event.

  • Hire a mobile charcuterie cart for your cocktail hour to welcome guests with an interactive and delicious display of light bites before the main meal. Customize the menu items to match your event’s style and budget.

  • Surprise guests with a late-night snack delivery. Think slices of pizza, mini burgers, soft pretzels and cheese sauce, or bags of buttered gourmet popcorn.

SWEET IDEAS

  • Say it with love – and frosting. Ask your cake designer to incorporate a favorite quote into your cake’s design.

  • Have a groom’s cake designed to celebrate your fiance’s personality, interest or hobby. It’s a great way to add an element of fun to the reception or even surprise the groom with a sweet gift.

  • Bring a touch of nostalgia to your special day with a dessert table featuring your favorite childhood treats, such as milkshakes, freshly baked cookies, brownies, and whoopie pies.

  • Show your fun side with a three-tier funfetti cake covered in sprinkles.

  • Get creative with your confections. Ask your baker to stack your favorite treats – cupcakes, donuts or cream puffs, for example – on tiered cake stands.

  • Love ice cream? Serve mini ice cream cones, hire an ice cream truck or cart, set up a build-your-own ice cream sundae bar, or even use an ice cream cake as your main wedding cake.

SIP SIP HOORAY

  • Rather than serving a popular cocktail like a martini or mojito as your "signature" alcoholic drink, create one of your own.

  • Host a small wine tasting table that allows your guests to sample delicious wines.

  • Keep guests hydrated with a non-alcoholic beverage station featuring fresh fruit-infused waters, iced teas, kombucha, mock mimosas and sparkling juices. Add florals and decorative-straw displays. It’s practical and very pretty.

  • Rent a mobile bar service to roll right up to the party. These creative bars on wheels serve up everything from signature cocktails and mocktails to specialty sodas and custom coffee drinks. Some services provide unique bar setups, like a converted bus or horse trailer, and can be decorated to reflect your event's theme.

  • Send guests home with custom-labeled mini wine bottles.

DÉCOR DOS

  • Your heritage might be a great source of inspiration for your décor. Incorporate traditional colors, patterns, and symbols in everything from stationery to floral arrangements. Display your parents’ and grandparents’ wedding photos – a romantic and elegant way to share your family history.

  • Add personality, charm, and a creative touch to your special day with custom signs that welcome and guide guests, display table numbers and bar menus, or share special messages – from heartfelt to humorous.

  • Go big and beautiful with giant marquee lights spelling out 'LOVE' or your new last name.

  • Personalize your reception décor with your monogram and your new last name – from napkins, to beverage stir sticks, to cake toppers to even spotlighting your initials on the dance floor.

  • Bring your cherished fur babies into your wedding celebration (even if they can’t physically be present) with custom illustrations of your pets on signs, cocktail napkins, wine labels, and more.

  • During your first dance, project favorite photos of you and your groom on the wall – like that shot of him as a 6-year-old in a Superman cape or the one of you as a toddler stuffing cake your mouth.

SAY IT WITH FLOWERS

  • Choose flowers with romantic or positive meanings, like roses or peonies, to add an extra layer of sentiment to your bouquet or décor.

  • Design your own wedding backdrop such as a flower wall or an arch with suspended strands of florals.

  • Tie your bouquet or boutonniere into your wedding theme, like adding succulents and berries, feathers, vintage-style jewels, or even fishing flies.

  • Deck the aisle in style: Lay petals on a fabric aisle runner or directly on the ground in delicate patterns and shapes; or, cover the entire aisle with a "carpet" of florals in your wedding colors. (Check with your wedding venue to see if this is allowed.)

  • Ask your florist to design the table centerpieces with multiple mini vases which guests can then take away with them at the end of the night, so they double up as favors and a lovely memento of your wedding day.

MUSICAL NOTES

  • At your cocktail hour, play music that's both unexpected and reflects your personal tastes, like jazz, vintage soul, bluegrass, or indie-folk.

  • Give your parents a surprise trip down memory lane by arranging to use their first-dance song for your own.

  • Have a friend with a great voice? Ask him or her to sing a rockin' tune that'll get all your guests up on the dance floor.

  • Who says you have to stick with traditional ceremony music? Hire a cellist or quartet to play an instrumental version of your favorite song that has a special meaning for both of you.

  • Take dance lessons with your partner before the big day so that you can wow your guests with a spectacular first dance. For added fun: Start out

  • Surprise your new spouse by singing him/her a song. Don’t worry about messing up – it will only make the show more endearing! Have fun with it.

GRAND GOOD-BYES

  • Take a moment at the end of the night to thank your guests. You might invite them to the dance floor to form a big circle. Pick a song that matches the tone you want your guests to remember.

  • For a different grand exit, race through a tunnel of ski poles, boat oars, sparklers, ribbon wands or bubbles. Or place party-store maracas, kazoos or tambourines on tables or chairs for guests to make some noise as you exit!

  • Ride off into the sunset in a wedding car that's sure to make any man drool, whether it's a cool vintage ride, an exotic sportscar or the muscle car he coveted as a teenager. Rent your groom's favorite set of wheels, and surprise him with a getaway he'll never forget.
